In addition to the customary demands of managing projects, projects in the area of special purpose machines pose a particular challenge.
Due to unforeseeable risks associated with conversions (upgrades and/or retrofits) of machines and their related infrastructure which surface, this has proven to be the “core competency” of project management.
Here, it is especially difficult to comply with a contract with the scheduled handover while still ensuring a profit: “on time” and “on budget”.
Previously determined processes in the form of clearly defined milestones for the entire business cycle - from initial inquiry and offer to project completion - are necessary in order to complete the project processes, recognize deviations and implement corrective measures in time.
